Meet the founder
M.A. in History · History PhD student, University of Houston
I’m Matthew Tharp, a seventh-grade Texas history teacher, historian, and the creator of Texas History Academy. Now in my sixth year of teaching, I bring classroom experience and advanced historical study to the resources I create.
I built this site for teachers and students because I know firsthand how difficult it can be to find high-quality materials for Texas history—resources that are accurate, engaging, and ready for the classroom. Teachers deserve materials they can trust. Students deserve history that makes sense and makes them curious.
My goal is to bring both together through thoughtful teaching materials, clear visuals, and interactive practice that helps students connect the people, places, and choices that shaped Texas.
Less time searching.
More time making history make sense.
This is just the beginning. I’m building the Academy into a growing home for Texas history learning—and I’d love for you to be part of it.
